Savvis Aquires Fusepoint

01.06.2010

Savvis, a hosting company based in the U.S announced their acquisition of Canadian based hosting company; Fusepoint. The announcement came on Tuesday June 1st 2010, with Savvis purchasing Fusepoint for 124.5 million cash. Fusepoint was established in TorontoCanadain 1999 and has successfully delivered services in managed hosting, collocation and application services. Although cloud computing is in relatively new stages of growth within the Canadian hosting market, Fusepoint was able to acquire a customer base of 330, bringing in a total of $41.7 million in revenue in 2009 alone.

What was ultimately behind Savvis’ decision to purchase Fusepoint was the high demand for hosting services in Canadafrom their multinational customers .The acquisition of Fusepoint is one of many acquisitions Savvis has completed since 2002. Such acquisitions have allowed Savvis to become one of the largest Internet Protocol network and hosting providers in the world. With Fusepoint’s current three data centers facilities in Mississauga, Vancouver and Montreal, Savvis will now be able to provide it’s clientele with over 31 data centers in North America. Savvis’ acquisition of Fusepoint is only the beginning, as the company plans on further growth, with a geographical presence around the world as their overall goal.

What seems to be Savvis’ biggest advantage in the market thus far is their ability to provide clients with the option to choose from a variety of IP and hosting services. This option is a large contrast when compared to their competitors who provide generic hosting packages, leaving customers with invaluable yet costly services. Their ability to provide flexibility allows businesses to choose a service package that is complementary to their specific requirements. This model has provided Savvis with 2,500 clients, 30 of which are Fortune 500 companies.
